In the startup world, things move pretty fast. Having the opportunity to be one of the first to develop on a platform can really put a startup or entrepreneur on the fast track to success. That’s why Microsoft is throwing an event, to provide developers, hackers, coders, startups and entrepreneurs the opportunity to learn how to build a Windows 8 app, as well as the opportunity to host on Microsoft’s Azure Cloud.

This event will be Microsoft’s technology-focused bootcamp to educate startups and developers how to effectively utilize and build on Windows 8 and Microsoft Azure platforms.

Monday, October 15; 6-9pm: Happy Hour Mixer and Loadfest
Come network and load up your PC in prep for the Azure and Windows 8 sessions on October 16 & 17.
Join Think Big Partners and Microsoft for appetizers and drinks on Monday, October 15 from 6-9 pm. Microsoft will have technical evangelists and representatives on site to answer your questions and talk shop. If you haven’t had time to load up your PC for the Azure and/or Windows 8 sessions the following days, feel free to bring your PC and we can get you set up and ready to roll. Meet the Microsoft team and network with other camp attendees while enjoying cocktails and hors d'oevres overlooking the skyline of downtown Kansas City from the rooftop garden.
Tuesday, October 16; 8am-4pm: Day 1 - Azure Cloud Kickstart
Windows Azure Cloud Platform enables you to quickly build, deploy and manage applications across a global network of Microsoft-managed datacenters. You can build applications using any operating system, language or tool.
Attendees will have the chance to build, deploy and manage applications across the Azure network.
Attendees will learn:
- How emerging businesses can best leverage Azure through CMS systems
- How to create and scale customer websites in PHP and Node.js
- How to deploy code updates using GIT
- How to run Azure Windows and Linux VM's
- How to store data in Azure
- How to use Azure's platforms such as Queues, Service Bus and Authentication
On the first day, attendees will also learn about the Microsoft BizSpark Program and how startups and entrepreneurs can use its 2,000 partners in order to connect with incubators, investors, advisors, government agencies and hosters.
Wednesday, October 17; 8am-4pm: Day 2 - Windows 8 App Kickstart
With 525 million Windows 7 licenses sold, millions of people await Windows 8 apps. Register for a day of training and learning the newest development process for Windows 8 apps.
Attendees will have the chance to build and develop on Windows 8 before it becomes available to the public!
Attendees will learn:
- Windows 8 navigation
- User experience patterns
- How to build Windows 8 Metro style apps using HTML5, CSS3 and JavaScript
- Inherent async design and integration
Thursday October 18: Face-to-face advice from Microsoft's Director of Startups (by appt. only)
Attendees are also invited to participate in a one-on-one question and answer session with Taylor Cowan, Microsoft’s Startup Evangelist. Come prepared with questions about Windows 8, Microsoft Azure Cloud and Microsoft BizSpark and how they relate to you and your startup.

Startups and entrepreneurs: register for BizSpark to receive your free Azure account. Sign up here. Use the unique enrollment code provide in the Azure Cloud Training confirmation email; enter code on the Contact Information page of the BizSpark registration. Once registered for BizSpark, access Azure from the MSDN My Account page > “Activate Azure”. You will need to download Azure prior to the training.
If you are not a startup or entrepreneur, register for your free Azure 90 day trial at: http://www.windowsazure.com/en-us/pricing/free-trial/. You will need to download Azure prior to the training.

There are 170 free parking spots on the street within 2 blocks of the building. Please enter from the south entrance double doors by the parking lot. Take the elevator to the 4th floor, then the stairs to the 6th floor to enter the event.

Jeff Brand is a Senior Developer Evangelist in Microsoft’s Developer and Platform Group. Jeff assists customers in evaluating, developing and deploying applications built on the .NET Framework and the Microsoft platform, with a current focus on Windows Phone and Windows 8. He has been with Microsoft for sixteen years and has served in variety of roles including infrastructure consultant, e-commerce technology specialist, and enterprise technology advisor.
